A three-minute walk from Maebaru Station, a take-out side dish shop specializing in local fish from Itoshima has opened. Appropriately named Ekimae-no Sakanaya san (Fish Shop in Front Of The Train Station), it’s run by the same crew as is Shima’s Kaisendon-ya, a hugely popular seafood bowl restaurant that uses only seasonal ingredients.
At this shop, sashimi is freshly cut on the spot (often as you wait) so that you can eat the tastiest and freshest local fish at home. Call in your order for sashimi in advance and pick it up as close to the meal time as possible for best results. In addition, handmade side dishes using Itoshima vegetables, takoyaki, squid dumplings, and sometimes fried fish sandwiches are also on offer.
Main menu (tax incl.): 5 kinds of sashimi ¥1,000, 8 pieces of takoyaki ¥600, 3 side dishes ¥500, 4 side dishes ¥650, homemade frozen squid dumplings (4 pieces) ¥500
