15 Nurseries in Fukuoka City Closed Due to COVID

On Jan. 24, Kitakyushu City announced temporary closures of six local nurseries due to the spread of the new coronavirus. The national government reported 327 nursery closures in 27 prefectures on the same day, including Saga, Oita, Kagoshima, and Okinawa. The situation in Fukuoka City has been severe as well; as of Jan. 20, 15 nurseries out of 456 were closed. The city responded to the situation by allowing those nurseries to find individuals who had close contact with COVID-19 patients on their own, aiming to avoid extended facility closures due to the overloaded work at local health centers and enable parents to go back to their jobs as early as possible.
