2021 Dontaku Parade Canceled

The Hakata Dontaku Port Festival promotional organization in Fukuoka announced its parade’s second consecutive cancelation due to the spread of the new coronavirus. In early May, the large-scale festival normally attracts upwards of two million persons to its events held over three days. While the festival aims to hold traditional stage performances and the Matsubayashi procession this year on smaller scales, it asks people in other prefectures to refrain from viewing them onsite.
