42 Candidates Enter Fukuoka Races Ahead of Lower House Election

Japan’s House of Representatives election was officially announced on January 27, with 42 candidates declaring their intention to run across Fukuoka Prefecture’s 11 single-seat districts. Candidate numbers range from two to five per district, with the largest fields in the 1st, 10th, and 11th districts. By party, the Liberal Democratic Party has 11 candidates, followed by Sanseito and the Japanese Communist Party with six each, alongside several other parties and independents. The slate includes 14 incumbents, two former lawmakers, and 26 newcomers. With just 16 days from dissolution to voting, the shortest postwar campaign period, key issues are expected to include inflation, consumption tax policy, and foreign and security affairs. Voting will be held on February 8. Source: NHK News / FBS News
