A system in Saga Prefecture in which ambulance personnel use iPads to determine the nearest hospital that can accept emergency patients, popularly known as 99 Saganet, has won the grand prize of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Telecommunications in a contest sponsored by the telecommunications industry. The system links all 55 ambulances with about 120 medical institutions both in the prefecture and nearby. The prefecture was the first to adopt a system whose use is spreading nationwide.
