A Costly Bite: Udon Chain’s Tempura Pranksters Fined

Two individuals in their twenties have received summary orders for a fine of 300,000 yen each, after being charged with obstruction of business. The charges were brought against the duo when they were caught on video taking advantage of free tempura bits (known as “tenkasu”) with a communal spoon and eating them at a store of the udon chain “Sukesan Udon,” primarily based in Kitakyushu City. The video was subsequently posted on social media. The individuals fined were a 22-year-old male construction worker from Ozu town, Kumamoto Prefecture, and a 28-year-old female office worker from Kokura Minami ward, Kitakyushu City. In January of this year, one of them ate the free tenkasu with a shared spoon while the other filmed the act and posted it on social media, thereby disrupting the store and the company’s business. The pair were formally charged with obstruction of business in May, and summary indictments were filed against them on July 11th. The Kokura Summary Court issued the summary orders for the fines on July 21st. Source: NHK
