AI-based System To Reduce Unpaid Train Fares

On Mar. 1, JR Kyushu began a trial to prevent people from boarding trains without valid tickets using an AI-powered system. Currently, deboarding passengers at uncrewed stations are required to either have their IC cards read or drop ticket slips in designated boxes. Measures against those who intentionally leave stations without paying proper fare are not in place. The new system integrates the IC card reader and a paper ticket scanner to tighten control.
