AI-based Translation Service Tested at Ward Offices

The testing of a new AI-based translation system has begun at public facilities in Fukuoka City. The system was developed by Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. as the first speech-to-speech translation application to support people who visit municipal halls for registrations. Translations between Japanese and eight (English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Indonesian, Thai, Myanmar) other languages are provided using an AI corpus specialized in administrative terms. Twenty-two devices are installed at locations including ward offices, subway stations of Tenjin, Hakata and Fukuoka Airport until the end of January 2020. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun, 11/28/2019
