Fukuoka City has experienced twice as many thefts of air-conditioning and hot-water units this year. Between Jan~Jul this year, more than 400 units have been reported stolen in the city. It is suspected that they are being sold for their metal content, as each unit can fetch ¥3,000. Higashi-ku was heavily targeted with 288 reports of stolen units filed with police.
