Amazon Expands Areas for Absent Delivery in Fukuoka City

Amazon announced on July 8 the inclusion of Hakata and Chuo wards of Fukuoka City into areas offering its new “okihai” delivery service. Unlike the traditional delivery systems in Japan, the new service provides delivery for packages even when customers are absent. Upon ordering, users can choose locations such as entrance, garage and near the gas meter cabinet as for drop off. When the products arrive at designated locations, a notification attached with a photo will be sent. Amazon had test-operated the service in a limited area of Tokyo from February to reduce the burden on delivery drivers due to increasing redeliveries. Source: Amazon Japan
