The Kumamoto Prefecture Dairy Farmers’ Association has started selling Rakuno Ringo, an apple-flavored milk beverage based on Omuta-based Omu Milk Products’ famous Omu Ringo drink. Omu stopped making Omu Ringo at the end of last year, so fans are happy to see their favorite “apple milk” make a comeback. Apple milk first went on sale in 1963 and sold 2,000 cartons daily at its peak. Rakuno Ringo, which will be produced for a limited three-month run, was approved by Omu but will use an original recipe developed by the Dairy Farmers’ Association. Cartons will retail for ¥180 and remain on the shelves until late October. The Dairy Farmers’ Association will decide whether or not to continue producing the beverage based on sales.
