Kumamoto City announced it will implement a plan in FY 2009 to concentrate restaurants and tourism guide centers in the Sakura no Baba district to the south of the castle keep. About two million tourists visit the castle every year. The city expects to the facilities in that district to begin operating when the Kyushu Shinkansen opens in 2011.
