On Feb. 17, Asahi Beer rolled out “virtual mannequins” at eight stores nationwide, including Aeon Mall Fukuoka in Kasuya Town. The mannequins consist of computer animations projected onto acrylic cutouts, and the company plans to actively deploy them for advertising purposes. The mannequins will be used in in-store displays for two weeks, during which time the company will evaluate customer response and determine ways to utilize them. The mannequin at Aeon Mall Fukuoka consists of three different female characters that take turns getting customers’ attention with hand gestures and calls of “Hey, over here!”.
