Asakura Taxi Co. Fights Flu with Sprayers

To help prevent of the spread of influenza and norovirus, Yano Taxi of Asakura City started operating the city’s first “disinfected taxis”—taxis equipped with disinfectant sprayers—this winter. The atomizing sprayers also serve to humidify and deodorize the vehicles. Taxis are confined spaces used by the general public. Given this and the fact that “morning riders are predominantly senior citizens going to the hospital”, the company began a trial run with three taxis last November and December. The service was a hit with patrons, and the drivers claim they have built up their resistance to colds. In late January, the company installed the sprayers in all of its 38 taxis. Attached to the dashboard, the sprayers emit a mixture of steam and disinfectant mist once every three minutes. “They have become conversations pieces and promote the clean image of our taxis,” said one driver. Kiyohiro Yano, president of Yano Taxi, said he will continue providing customers with a safe and healthy taxi-riding experience. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun, Feb. 8
