The Moji Customs Office reports that the value of beer exported through the Port of Hakata in 2011 totaled 1.225 billion yen, an increase of 6.3 times from the previous year. It was a record high, and the first new record in 10 years. In volume terms, it was 10,960 kiloliters, a year-on-year increase of 9.2 times. South Korea, where upscale foreign beer has become popular, and which is also geographically close to Kyushu, accounted for 57% of the exports.
