Beware of Tornadoes in September
Since the beginning of this month, damage from windstorms that were likely tornadoes has been reported from all corners of Japan. Looking at Kyushu, in Nagasaki Prefecture, a fishing boat was overturned by a tornado off the coast of Tsushima Island. Tornadoes are most prevalent in September, which is also a highly typhoon-prone month in Japan. Northern Kyushu is especially prone to tornadoes due to the mixing of humid summer air with cool autumn air caused by a seasonal rain front. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 9/8
