Bird Flu Outbreak Results in Largest Chicken Disposal in Fukuoka’s History

A bird flu outbreak has been found at a poultry farm in Fukuoka City, where a large number of chickens have died, and genetic testing has confirmed the presence of the H5 strain of bird flu. From the morning of the second day, the prefecture began disposing of over 240,000 chickens raised on the farm, making it the largest disposal in the prefecture’s history. In addition, a 10-kilometer radius around the affected farm has been designated as a “shipment restriction area,” and shipping of chickens and eggs has been prohibited from eight other farms in the area, which raise a total of 150,000 chickens. This is the fourth case of bird flu in Fukuoka Prefecture this season, with previous cases reported in Itoshima City and Koga City since December last year. Source: Fukuoka Prefecture / NHK
