Bridgestone Tests Air-Free Tires

Bridgestone conducted a public demonstration of its next-generation air-free tire technology in Kurume on May 12 using a small electric vehicle fitted with the company’s “AirFree” tires. The design replaces air with specially shaped resin spokes that support the vehicle and eliminate the risk of punctures. The blue-colored spokes were also designed to improve visibility in low-light conditions. Bridgestone said worn rubber tread sections can be replaced, while the resin framework can be melted down and reused, supporting recycling efforts. Company officials said the tires are being developed for future mobility services, including autonomous transportation, where uninterrupted operation is important. Bridgestone aims to begin practical implementation of the technology later this year following continued testing and evaluation. Source: KBC News / Bridgestone
