BRT Hikoboshi Line to Add New Bus

The BRT Hikoboshi Line, connecting Hita Station in Oita Prefecture and Soeda Station in Fukuoka Prefecture, was launched in August last year as a response to the significant damage inflicted on the JR Hita Hikosan Line by the heavy rains in northern Kyushu. Due to its successful ridership, with daily averages reaching about 320 passengers – more than double the train usage – a new mid-sized bus will be introduced in April.

The increase in passengers is attributed to the enhanced convenience, including tripled station numbers and a 1.5 times increase in service frequency compared to the railway. The new 56-seater mid-sized vehicle, designed to reflect the region’s rich landscapes, will start operating on April 9, enhancing the line’s capacity and service quality. Source: JR Kyushu / NHK
