Two major shopping centers, Canal City Hakata (Hakata-ku) and Marinoa City (Nishi-ku), will adopt a new credit card payment system that will allow customers to pay in 14 different foreign currencies, including US dollars, Euros, Taiwan dollars, HK dollars and Thai Baht. The service will be provided by Tokyo-based Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company and Fukuoka-based Kyushu Card Co., Ltd, and it will fix prices in foreign currencies at the time of the transaction, instead of several days later. The aim of the system, the first of its kind in Kyushu, is to increase convenience for foreign visitors, and it will begin in mid-July. Most of the shops at Marinoa City and about one-third of the shops at Canal City plan to adopt the system. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun, July 3
