Weather data company Weather Map released its annual sakura (cherry blossom) forecast on Friday, Jan. 23. The forecast predicts somei yoshino, the most popular type of cherry blossom in Japan, to begin blooming on Mar. 21 in Kochi City, Shikoku and Mar. 22 in Fukuoka City—with respective full blooms for these cities on Mar. 29 and 31. According to Weather Map, sakura will begin blooming along the Pacific Coast of western Japan, followed by the entire island of Kyushu between Mar 22 and 25. Most cities can expect normal or slightly earlier than usual blooms, but it may feel later since last year’s sakura season started relatively early.
