Chikuzen Town to Give Residents Free Local Rice

Chikuzen Town in Fukuoka Prefecture will distribute 5 kilograms of locally grown rice to all 31,000 residents later this month. Funded by about ¥150 million from local tax reserves, the program aims to ease household expenses amid high rice prices while promoting local consumption. The town ran a similar giveaway last year after strong community support. Exchange coupons will be sent in late November, with distribution at three town locations in mid-December. Officials hope the initiative encourages residents to enjoy more local produce and strengthens ties between farmers and the community. Source: Chikuzen Town
