Fukuoka City and other Kyushu cities are growing increasingly interested in promoting themselves as ports of call to cruise ship companies whose cruises originate in China. The objective is to stimulate local economies. From April to October this year, Chinese cruise ships sailed to Fukuoka City 23 times bringing roughly 25,000 affluent Chinese tourists with disposable income.
