Cities in Oita Launch Compete For Seafood Eaters

Usuki City and Beppu City in Oita Prefecture compete for tourists by launching similar discount campaigns; ‘Fugu (puffer fish) wari’ vs. ‘Oni (ogre) wari.’ While ‘Oni wari’ discounts were used by some 20,000 guests who stayed overnight at Beppu-based onsen facilities as of the end of October, the newcomer ‘Fugu wari’ covers half of the fugu-food bills at registered restaurants. The two campaigns battle over the number of users during December and the winner will give away 30 sets of specialty gifts. Source: Usuki Kanko / Omotenashi Pride Project
