Two citizen groups in Yamaguchi Prefecture have begun a campaign asking the prefecture to turn down the application of Chugoku Electric Power to conduct landfill operations in conjunction with the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kaminoseki-cho. The groups are collecting signatures for petitions as well as having concerned citizens send postcards to the prefectural governor. They claim the area is home to animal and plant life that will be threatened by the construction.
