City to Issue New Subway Passes Targeting Elderly, Families

The Fukuoka City Transportation Bureau has announced revisions to its special subway passes in an effort to get more people to take public transportation. A new pass for senior Citizens aged 65 years and over, Chika Pass 65, will be introduced and enable unlimited rides for ¥6,000/month. (This is even cheaper than the regular (¥12,340) and student (¥7,200) commuter passes.) The Bureau will also create a new Family Pass that will grant unlimited one-day rides to two adults and any number of children of elementary school age or younger for just ¥1,000. With both of these new passes, the City hopes that more people will get out into the city without using personal vehicles. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 2/13
