Toshiba subsidiary Toshiba LSI Package Solutions announced it will close its main plant in Miyawaka, Fukuoka Prefecture by November. The plant, which employs 400 people, assembles NAND flash memory used in cellular telephones and digital cameras. The employees will be reassigned, and the plant operations will be transferred to another facility in Mie Prefecture. This follows on the heels of Pioneer’s closing of its plasma factory in Kagoshima Prefecture, and the closure of NEC group plants. These closures are attributed to boost production efficiency following the decline in plant operation ratio resulting from the economic downturn.
