Construction work has been completed on an apartment block made primarily of wood in Hakata, Fukuoka City. The Will Building Project used reinforced concrete to build the first floor. However, wood was the primary construction material for the rest of five storey building. The wood is fireproof and will be able to withstand flames for one hour. The developers used cross laminated timber (CLT) made from cedar trees grown in Fukuoka Prefecture for the wooden section of the structure. Source: Japan Forest Products Journal, 1/19/2019
