Shiseido, a major cosmetics manufacturer, has completed the construction of a new factory in Kurume City. Shiseido’s mainstay products, such as Aqua Label and Elixir, will be manufactured at the plant. The products manufactured at the plant include skincare products such as lotions and milky lotions in the “mid-priced” range. The factory incorporates the latest IoT technology and is the first in the cosmetics industry to introduce equipment that can check quality in real-time during manufacturing. In addition, the latest robots are used for packaging, which has tripled productivity. They expect to produce up to 140 million pieces per year at total capacity. The factory is also environmentally friendly, using 100% renewable energy for electricity. Currently, about 250 people are working at the plant, and the company is actively hiring local workers and hopes to secure 800 to 900 workers by the time the plant is fully operational in four years.
