Hotels and other sightseeing facilities in Kyushu have been experiencing business hardships amidst the break out of the new coronavirus. With a ban on group tours from China, Dazaifu City, which usually sees many Chinese tourists during the holidays of Chinese New Year, now has almost none. A local sweet shop owner revealed that their sales have dropped to nearly one fourth of the average weekend. JR Kyushu group hotels had 340 cancellations between late January to late April, estimated as an ¥8 million loss. Indirect impacts also prevail in other places; areas such as Okinawa and Saga have been suffering cancellations of Japanese guests who avoid getting in contact with customers from China.
