Counterfeit Bills Found at a School in Onojo City

On July 19, Kasuga Police Station filed charges against a male student for producing and passing on counterfeit money. The student in question allegedly used three ¥1,000 bills to purchase bread at his junior high school in Onojo City. The police believe that the youngster used a home printer to create a total of four ¥1,000 notes in mid-April. Two bills were identified by staff who were collecting the previous month’s cash receipts in early May, while one was found to have entered circulation in Fukuoka City at some point in late April. An additional unused bill was discovered at the boy’s home. All four notes had the same serial number and no watermark. The Onojo City Board of Education made an official announcement about the incident on May 9. The student made a confession at the police station accompanied by his mother and the school principal two days later. Source: Asahi Shimbun, 7/19/2019
