Court Rejects Appeal Over Yatai License

The Fukuoka High Court has overturned a lower court ruling that had recognized a man’s right to inherit his father’s yatai (street food stall) business, rejecting his claim that the city’s denial of the license transfer was unlawful.

Keita Hara, 44, had applied to take over the business four years ago after his father’s health deteriorated. However, the city rejected the request, citing that Hara did not meet a key requirement under its basic ordinance on yatai operations: earning a living primarily from the yatai. While a district court ruled in Hara’s favor last year, the high court found inconsistencies and insufficient support in the submitted evidence. The presiding judge stated that Hara had not adequately proven that he relied on the yatai for his livelihood. Source: NHK
