Fukuoka Prefecture has confirmed that 1,134 people have been infected with the new coronavirus in the prefecture on Aug 19. This is the second consecutive day that the number of cases has exceeded 1,000. This includes 529 cases in Fukuoka City, 188 in Kitakyushu City, and 63 in Kurume City. The total number of confirmed cases in Fukuoka Prefecture is now 53,585. Two people in their 90s or older were confirmed to have died, bringing the total number of infected people who have died in Fukuoka Prefecture to 555.
Meanwhile, 677 people in the prefecture are suspected to be infected with the delta strain. As of yesterday, 852 people were hospitalized in 1444 hospital beds, which the prefecture claims to have secured, and the utilization rate of the beds was 59%. Of these, 26 patients were in serious condition requiring artificial respirators, and the utilization rate of 202 beds for the seriously ill was 12.8%. In addition, the number of patients receiving overnight treatment was 1,529, the highest number so far. Governor Hattori of Fukuoka Prefecture told reporters on the afternoon of the 19th, “We are in a very critical situation with an explosive infection that we have never experienced, and we cannot see the peak yet.” Source: NHK
