Damage Reported After Heavy Rains in Northern Kyushu

The severe rainfall in the northern Kyushu area has resulted in at least two deaths in the prefectures of Fukuoka and Saga. While special warnings in the area were lifted in the afternoon of Aug. 28, the risks of mudslides remains high. In Fukuoka, an eighty-four year-old man was found dead in his car. According to the prefecture’s announcement in the evening, 16 homes in Yame City suffered flooding as of 6 pm yesterday, while streets submerged in water were reported at 116 spots in Yame and Chikugo. Saga is considered have suffered the worst. Details of damage there have yet to be confirmed. Rain is still falling in the area and will continue for days to come.
