It was discovered that defective materials were used for panels on bridges built for the Kagoshima-Yatsuhiro route of the Kyushu Shinkansen that began operation in 2004. The panels were sold by the Aso Co. of Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture. The organization responsible for building the Shinkansen said that inspections were conducted before service began, and there were no problems with either safety or durability. They added that they hadn’t received a report on the problems yet.
