Department Store and Supermarket Sales Decline

Statistics released by Kyushu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry indicate that department store and supermarket sales in Kyushu and Okinawa area in September has declined by 0.4% compared to the same month in 2017, totaling ¥115 billion. The sales have dropped for the first time in two months mainly due to slow grocery sales at supermarkets. Meanwhile, sales at drugstores, convenience stores, and home appliances stores of the area in September exceeded that of the same month of the previous year.
