Development of Nagasaki Islands Lagging

Six years ago, Oshima-cho in Saikai, Nagasaki Prefecture, spent more than 30 million yen to buy two uninhabited islands in the prefecture with the intention of building a health resort with an emphasis on “island therapy”. Since the purchase, however, the municipality has done nothing to further the plans because it has been unable to allocate the funding. Criticism by local citizens is now growing over such a large expenditure by a small town with nothing to show for it.
