Saga University researchers announced on December 8 that they developed a diamond-based power semiconductor capable of amplifying radio signals up to 120 GHz, a performance among the highest for the material. The device covers both microwave and millimeter-wave ranges, enabling potential use in 6G base stations and satellite communications. Nearly all of the roughly 100 prototypes reached the targeted frequency through micro-fabricated electrodes and new packaging techniques suited to hard diamond substrates. The team plans to supply sample devices to major electronics firms in early 2026.
