At Kitakyushu’s Itozu no Mori Zoological Park, vegetables once destined for disposal are now feeding animals, cutting costs and food waste. The initiative connects farmers, transport firms, and the zoo through Kyushu Seino Transport, which collects irregular produce from farms in Unzen, Nagasaki, and delivers it along existing routes at low cost. With feed expenses up about 40% over the past two decades, the program offers a sustainable solution benefiting both farmers and zoos. A similar effort began this month at Fukuoka City Zoo, where unused produce from Costco Hisayama is now delivered for animal feed. Source: Itozu no Mori Zoological Park / Fukuoka Zoo / TNC
