Dolphins Make a Splash at River Mouth in Kitakyushu

A school of dolphins was spotted at the mouth of the Sakai River in Kitakyushu City, Japan, on February 2nd. According to experts, the dolphins are likely either bottlenose or southern bottlenose dolphins, based on their size and other characteristics. The river runs through an industrial area, but the dolphins appeared healthy and were seen jumping in the water. This is a rare occurrence and a delight for residents and city officials who visited the estuary to see the dolphins. The same school of dolphins has been sighted in the surrounding Kanmon Straits for three years and eight reports were received last year. Residents are reminded to carefully watch the dolphins if they spot them. Source: NHK
