Kyushu Electric Power (Kyuden) and the Kumamoto-based drone developer, Blue Bee, conducted a drone trial to mow undergrowth in a forest in Oita. The first such project in Japan saw a 28-kilogram drone carry a mower and float 3~4 meters above the ground while avoiding trees. The technology might lead to a solution for the forestry industry that faces the challenge of an aging workforce. The project aims to bring the technology to market within three years.
