Economic Growth Predicted for Kyushu and Okinawa in 2018

The Kyushu Economic Research Center announced on Dec. 26 that they expect to see real economic growth rate of 1.3% in Kyushu and Okinawa during 2018. This marks the fourth consecutive year that growth was predicted in the region. Experts also anticipate a rise in consumer spending, real wages, and the number of female workers in full-time employment. Corporate capital investment is also expected to increase, along with electronic exports and the number of inbound tourists visiting on low-budget airlines. Public spending is likely to receive an injection of funding to help facilitate reconstruction efforts in areas affected by the torrential downpours that hit northern Kyushu in 2017.
