A demonstration of an electric cargo aircraft was conducted in Kitakyushu, marking Japan’s first test of airport-to-airport freight transport using an electrically powered aircraft. The aircraft, known as the KitaQ e-Hawk, can carry up to 562 kilograms and fly about 400 kilometers per charge. The test included a 30-minute flight from Kitakyushu Airport to Oita Airport, followed by a route toward Miyazaki to assess safety and logistics costs. The project, led by Kitakyushu City in partnership with Yamato Holdings, aims to reduce emissions and fuel costs, though limited range remains a key challenge. The initiative is being closely watched for its potential impact on Japan’s logistics sector. Source: TVQ News / Nikkei
