Coca Cola Japan is taking action to become more energy-efficient. On Nov. 19, the company introduced new vending machines which save up to 95% energy during the daytime. Coca Cola West Japan Company (CCWJ) in Fukuoka will spend ¥100 billion yen to replace approximately 25,000 machines in 2013. CCWJ’s current vending machines use energy 24 hours a day, whereas the new design will cool drinks at night time and stop the cooling mechanism during the day. The new machines can maintain a low temperature without using energy for a maximum of of 16 hours. Even during the winter, drinks can be served hot or cold, while saving 68% of energy. CCWJ plans to replace 980,000 of their current vending machines by 2020. Approximately half of Japan’s vending machines belong to Coca Cola Japan.
