On Feb. 16, City Hall announced that the cost to replace the aging Civic Center in Suzaki (Chuo Ward) could reach ¥20 billion, including the cost of demolition. The City plans to build a new “cultural hub” on a nearby site located in Suzaki Park south of the Prefectural Art Museum. The new facility, which would include a 2,000-seat main hall and a smaller 800-seat event space, is estimated to cost ¥16 billion, while demolition of the old building will cost ¥4 billion. The City aims to use a private finance initiative (PFI) for the project, and hopes to solicit open bids in 2018.
