Food Prices Reduced by 15% @ AEON SUPERMARKETS

Timed to celebrate surpassing 1,000 shops around Japan, AEON announced reductions in food prices at their supermarkets in Fukuoka Prefecture as of Nov. 20. Approximately 2,000 food items have been reduced by as much as 15%. For example, pre-made curry sauce was reduced from ¥68 to ¥58, and cheese was reduced from ¥498 to ¥458. AEON’s sister company Max Value, which has 123 branches in Kyushu, is also having sales on about 90 private brand items. AEON officials commented that Kyushu consumers are particularly demanding and price sensitive, and that Kyushu has many discount supermarkets such as Trial and Mr. Max, therefore competition is particularly challenging.
