Foreign arrivals to Japan through Kyushu’s airports and ports reached a record high in 2025, totaling about 5.75 million, according to the Kyushu Transport Bureau. The figure rose by roughly 740,000 from the previous year and exceeded the pre-pandemic peak recorded in 2018 by around 630,000. Fukuoka Airport accounted for the largest share with approximately 3.76 million arrivals, followed by Hakata Port, Kumamoto Airport, and ports in Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture. While air routes linking China and Kyushu declined after a Chinese government travel advisory issued in November, arrivals from other regions increased. Officials said growth in traffic from South Korea and Taiwan helped offset the decline, contributing to the record total. Source: NHK News / Kyushu MLIT
