Fukuoka Accommodation Tax Becomes Law

On July 12, an ordinance for levying accommodation taxes on guests who stay overnight in Fukuoka Prefecture was approved by the prefectural assembly. The ordinance includes taxation of ¥200 for hotel and ryokan guests in municipalities other than Fukuoka City, where double taxation by the prefecture (¥50) and the city (¥150) will begin. It also says that in case other municipalities introduces their accommodation tax in the future, the prefectural accommodation tax will be reduced to ¥100. The prefecture and the city of Fukuoka intend to start the new tax before the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 7/12/2019
