Severe rainfall hit the prefectures of Fukuoka and Saga on July 20 and 21 and an evacuation alert (warning level 4) was activated for 57,000 people in the areas of Asakura City and Chikuzen Town. Typhoon No. 5 and a high-pressure system in the Pacific Ocean caused a warm and humid air to move into northern Kyushu. The cities of Tosu and Kurume experienced a record heavy rainfall of 300 millimeters within 24 hours, which is larger than the average monthly rainfall in July. Landslides, flooding above the floor level and injuries have been reported in Fukuoka Prefecture as of July 21. The Japan Meteorological Agency continues to recommend people to stay alert for possible landslides or other related troubles. Source: NHK News Web, 7/21/2019
