Fukuoka Assembly Speaker Plans to Resign

Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly Speaker Isao Kurauchi said on August 17 that he intends to step down around the September session. Sources said he plans to resign after the assembly establishes a third-party committee to examine allegations of cash payments and passes a political ethics ordinance. A proposed resolution recommending his resignation did not reach a vote after a motion by an LDP member to halt proceedings passed by a majority. Governor Seitaro Hattori declined to assess the assembly’s decision and called for prompt fact-finding and reform. Source: TNC News / KBC News / RKB News
